Workshop how to select PhD students

Introduction

The success of a PhD trajectory is closely related to selecting the successful PhD student. To pay close attention to the selection process will pay off later in the trajectory.

Aim

This workshop will give some practical tools on how to best select your PhD student. It is about how to carefully define beforehand what is needed for a specific position (knowledge and competences) and about the interview techniques you can use to find out whether a candidate possesses the required competencies.

(Prospect) supervisors of PhD students

Content

Questions that will be addressed are:

·         Which competencies does the PhD need in his/her project
·         What are the most important tasks for the PhD student in this project
·         How to discuss in detail what the candidate did until now by the STARR method
·         How to discuss the candidates motivations
