Duration: 26 contact hours (in 13 weeks) or 14 contact hours (in 14 weeks).
Studyload: Each week: 2 contact hours (including a break) and 2 to 4 hours of independent study.

During the Russian language course of the University of Groningen Language Centre you will first learn the Cyrillic script, in order to be able to read and write Russian. You will also learn to read and speak in Russian and communicate about everyday subjects such as working, eating and drinking and hobbies.

Course Content

Grammar is not a goal in itself, but will be used to support language acquisition. Much attention will be paid to speaking and acquiring a basic vocabulary. At the end of this Russian course you will be able to introduce yourself, order in a restaurant, ask for directions and understand and write simple texts. You will also be introduced to several cultural aspects of Russia.

Language of Instruction           

The target language is the language of instruction as much as possible. When necessary, the course is taught in Dutch and/or English. The course material is in Dutch or English.

Using a Rosetta Stone account besides a language course

It is possible to use a Rosetta Stone account for online independent study besides one of our language courses, with the advantage that the account can be used after the course to keep working on your language skills. Please note that a Rosetta Stone account is not compulsory for our language courses and will not be used by the teacher.

Student workload

‘Studyload’, in the course description, indicates the number of hours a student is expected to spend on the course. A studyload of 28 hours equals 1 ECTS credit point.

Attendance certificate

At the end of a course, every participant will receive an attendance certificate on condition that they have attended 75% of the lessons.

Lesson Duration

A contact hour lasts 50 minutes (excluding break). Classes start on the hour.
