Presenting a VIDI grant application

Introduction

You are (likely to be) invited to a Vidi interview, during which you must get your expert knowledge and innovative ideas across to a panel that consists mainly of non-experts. During this two-day training, our experienced trainers will help increase your fluency in the languages of content, visuals, tonality, and posture.

The training is set in a safe, interdisciplinary environment with max. 12 participants. The trainers offer high quality coaching and personalized feedback.

You will be working on:

  • the clarity and convincingness of your message
  • the speed, articulation and intonation by which you share this message
  • your facial expressions, use of hands and posture that underline your message
  • the use of props and the content of slides that support your message.

Aim

By the end of this training, you will:

  • be able to connect with experts and non-experts when sharing the essentials of your proposal
  • have learned how to use slides, sound and silence to strengthen your presentation
  • have become more aware of the potential of your body language
  • be able to confidently deal with difficult questions on the spot

Intended for

Researchers who have submitted a Vidi application, irrespective of whether they have already received an invitation for an interview or not.

Programme

Day 1 – The Four Languages of Your Presentation

Day 2 – Your Interaction with the Panel

During day 1 you will be practicing the four languages of content, visuals, tonality and posture through both self-reflective and interactive assignments. You will enhance the quality and accessibility of your core message. You will strengthen your message both verbally and non-verbally, working on structure and convincingness, posture and voice.

During day 2 you will get the opportunity to test your newly acquired knowledge. You will practice your presentation skills and rehearse the Q&A session. You will train how to deal with tricky and potentially derailing questions.

During the training, a Vidi laureate will come and share her/his reflections on the actual interview, and how she/he prepared for it.
