My name is Pelin Gül, a Turkish expat in the Netherlands and an Assistant Professor of Social Psychology in Campus Fryslan, teaching on the GRL skills lab and psychology track courses such as Academic Communication, Explaining Human Behaviour, Applied Social Psychology, and Psychology of Culture & Diversity. I am also supervising students as part of Academic Advisement, Capstone thesis and Living Labs projects.

My primary research interests involve understanding the psychological foundations of gender relations. I seek to explain how motivational forces interact with sociocultural and socioecological factors to shape support for ideologies that are disadvantageous to women such as sexism, misogyny, and female honor norms. I approach my research questions with a combination of perspectives from social, cultural, and evolutionary psychology, using quantitative (experiments and surveys) and qualitative research (observations and interviews) methods.

My time outside of Campus Fryslan is devoted to enjoying the outdoors, watersports, cycling, pottery, travelling, petting cats, and reading popular science books on cultural and biological evolution and big history.
