BSc Data Science & Society admissions requirements

1. Secondary School Diploma
You are required to have successfully obtained a secondary school diploma which allows entry to an academic university. Therefore, you need to obtain a Dutch VWO diploma or international equivalent before gaining entry to the programme. It is also possible to apply with a Dutch HBO (University of Applied Sciences) propedeuse or a colloquium doctum. You can check VWO-equivalent qualifications to see whether you meet the requirements and whether your qualification is considered equivalent to a Dutch VWO diploma.
If your qualification is not listed on the page, please know that you can still apply, as all applications are assessed on an individual basis.
2. English requirements
As the Data Science and Society programme is fully taught and assessed in English, students are required to demonstrate their English skills by sitting an approved English test. You are exempted from proving your proficiency in English, if you:
Have completed/will complete entire secondary/higher education in one of these countries. USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada (English speaking provinces/territories), Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines. |
Scored a minimum final grade of 7 for the English course for the Dutch VWO diploma |
Obtain(ed) a Dutch HBO Propaedeutic diploma taught and assessed in English |
Scored a minimum final grade of 10 for the English course at Leistungskurs (LK) / erhörtere Anforderingsniveau (eA) for the German Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife |
Obtain(ed) an International Baccalaureate diploma, with English as the medium of instruction |
Obtain(ed) an European Baccalaureate diploma from a European School or one of the Accredited European Schools and have (completed) English as final exam subject as L1 or L2 |
Have obtained/will obtain at least 3 GCE(A) level certificates from one of the recognized British examination boards. |
Obtain(ed) the French Option Internationale du Baccalaur éat (OIB) section Britannique / Anglais |
Obtain(ed) the South African National Senior certificate with IEB Advanced Programme certificate in English with 55% or more. |
Have obtained/will obtain the Singapore/Cambridge A-levels in at least 3 H2 and 1 H1 content* courses (of which at least 1 course in a contrasting discipline) together with either the course General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry (5 courses in total). |
If you do not fall under one of these exemptions, you are required to complete an English language test. Information on accepted tests and grades can be found here.
In case you haven't taken one of our accepted English tests yet, or think this is not necessary for you, then please indicate this with your online application. In case it is required for you to take one of our accepted English tests, you will be informed about this by the admissions office when an admission decision has been made on your application.
3. Mathematics Requirements
Due to the content of some courses, CF has a mathematics requirement. Students are required to have achieved a passing grade in VWO Wiskunde A or B or an international equivalent.

If you did not obtain one of the above-mentioned qualifications, then you are asked to provide us with a Mathematics course description with your online application. Requirements for the Mathematics course description can be found here.
You will be informed on your level of Mathematics during the general admission procedure. If your mathematics level is deemed insufficient, you will be required to obtain one of the accepted Mathematics proficiency certificates. CF accepts the following certificates:
Dutch VWO Mathematics (Wiskunde) A, B, or C certificate with a passing grade (obtained at either CCVX or Boswell-Bèta) |
Online Mathematic Placement Test A (OMPT-A) (Obtained via Sowiso, maximum of two attempts allowed) with a minimum average score of 55% |
College Board AP Examination (AP Statistics, AB or BC: grades 3-5 |
GCE (A) or GCE (AS) level certificate in Mathematics with a passing grade |
