Application for financial support
Grants for Bachelor’s, Master’s and outstanding Master’s students
Every year, the GUF awards a limited number of grants to Bachelor's and Master's students from the University of Groningen. N.B. Students are only entitled to one grant from the GUF!
Preference/priority is given to placements/study periods that form part of the curriculum and that last at least 8 weeks, requests for periods of less than 6 weeks will not be considered. Students attending conferences are not eligible.
The maximum grant for a period spent in Europe is € 400, and for a period spent outside Europe € 500.
Grants for Bachelor’s and Master’s students:
- An average mark of at least 7.3 for the Bachelor’s phase , an average mark of 7.0 for students taking a double Bachelor’s .
- Students who apply for a grant for excellence must have an average mark of at least 7.5 for Bachelor’s students and 8.0 for Master’s students.
A crowdfunding experiment has been set up in collaboration with the Ubbo Emmius Fund. Bachelor’s students with an average mark of 7.0 - 7.2 will be awarded half of the grant amount (€ 200or € 250) by the GUF on condition that the sum be doubled by means of crowdfunding. In response to the great number of applications, the Board has decided only to award grants to students who gained their Bachelor's degree with an average mark of at least 7.3. In addition to several regular grants, the GUF also awards 60 grants every year to outstanding Master's students with an average mark of 7.5 for their Bachelor’s phase and 8 or higher for their Master’s phase. Group study trips
Grants will only be awarded to students planning a group study trip if the trip has been organized by a Faculty student association under the guidance of one or more members of staff. The maximum grant is € 1,000.
Applications must state the aim of the trip, the number of students taking part, the budget and a signed letter (on official UG paper) from a lecturer who will also be on the trip. Applications must be received by the GUF secretary at least 6 weeks before the intended departure date.
Organization of conferences/symposia
Applications for a grant to arrange a conference must state information about the target group, the number of delegates, the dates and the budget. N.B. Conferences must take place in Groningen or the northern Netherlands and participants must be charged a contribution.
