Nobel Prize Chemistry for Ben Feringa

UG Professor Ben Feringa has won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the invention and development of molecular machines, together with British-born Sir Fraser Stoddart and Frenchman Jean-Pierre Sauvage .

Ben Feringa has been professor of Organic Chemistry at the UG since 1988. He has achieved breakthroughs in various fields of chemistry, including organic synthesis, catalysis, supramolecular chemistry and nanotechnology. His discovery in 1999 of the ‘molecular motor’, a light-driven rotating molecule, is widely recognized as a world-class breakthrough.
