Dr K.E. Keizer - Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences
Kees Keizer obtained his PhD at the UG and is University Lecturer in the department of Psychology. Students praise him for his ability to enthuse. As Keizer puts it himself: ‘I am passionate about the topics I teach, and what is more fun than sharing your passion?’
Keizer wants students to experience academia together and together with him, in a safe environment that welcomes questions and discussion. He makes his lectures interactive through student experiments and quizzes. ‘I feel that interest and curiosity are the best motivators. Sometimes presenting an intriguing question without providing the answer contributes more to the learning process.’ He also provides a clear learning pathway from theory to practice. ‘I think that connecting course material to real-life examples not only sparks interest but also improves comprehension and recollection, as students are more likely to think about the course material when they are not studying.’ Finally, he enjoys developing and using his own video lectures. He feels that we should not regard video recordings as a threat to traditional lectures but need to start thinking about how both can complement and strengthen each other instead.
