Finding employment
The Dutch working culture might seem very different from your country of origin. But it is also a great opportunity for your professional development. Although we cannot guarantee that you will succeed in finding a job, Dual Career Support will provide you with the relevant tools and training to make you fit for the Dutch job market.
Discovering the (Northern) Dutch job market
The Dutch job market has a number of characteristics. Our workfloor culture is quite cordial; we use first names when talking to colleagues, we may sit next to our supervisor at lunch and we are not afraid to speak up during meetings. But we also value punctuality and reliability. Groningen, also known as ‘The City of Talent’ is known for its excellent service providers, innovation and high quality research institutes.
The northern region has a wide range of vacancies in sectors such as engineering, construction, IT, transport, logistics, healthcare and education. Although Dutch is the official language, a growing number of employers recognize the value of international employees. A minimum proficiency level of C1 for the Dutch language is advised.
If you are a DCS partner, you may also apply as an internal candidate for UG positions. A minimum level of C1 for the Dutch language is required for most non-academic positions.
Please note: for non-academic positions, a minimum level of C1 for the Dutch language is required. An internal candidate will only receive preference for a position, if two candidates are equally qualified for the same function and the second candidate is an external applicant.
