"Teach me better": Building awareness of inclusion and diversity in university courses and bridging the students' and teachers' perspective.

In this workshop we will explore efforts that teachers can take to foster inclusivity in their classes, focusing especially on easy to implement practices to become aware of biases and to avoid microaggressions in the classroom.

The results of a project led by Oksana Kavatsyuk, awarded with a Comenius teaching fellowship, will be presented, including a set of concrete, evidence-based practices on how to teach a gender-inclusive course. These principles can be easily generalized also to other contexts of diversity. As part of the project students actively participated in designing these practices, and during the session we aim to work towards a common ground for students and teachers with regard to inclusive teaching.
