MicroLab Active Learning Classrooms

To support teachers in using the Active Learning Classrooms, the Staff Development department has developed a short course for teachers. This course is in the form of a MicroLab, which means that it consists of partly asynchronous preparation (literature, assignments) and partly a synchronous joint session on location. In total, this MicroLab requires a time investment of approximately 5 hours.

In this MicroLab, you will get acquainted with one of these ALCs and dive into active teaching and learning activities. You will discover and discuss the possibilities of active learning with your fellow teachers. We will assist and guide you to come up with ideas to use these classrooms for your own course(s).

Learning goals

After successful completion of this MicroLab you are able to:

  • Design appropriate active teaching and learning activities;
  • Summarize the benefits of active learning for your courses;
  • Use the facilities in the ALCs to enhance active learning.
Round 1: June 2022

The first round of this MicroLab will take place in June 2022. The asynchronous activities are offered via Brightspace. You can carry out these preparatory assignments at your own pace in the period between June 1st and 14th. The synchronous session will take place on Tuesday June 14th, from 09:30-12:00, in the Duisenberg building (room 5433.0209B). Participants can register until May 31st, 2022. The costs for participation in the MicroLab are reimbursed from the ALC project.

Round 2: Fall 2022

The second round of this MicroLab will take place in the fall of 2022. Dates and location will be announced in due course.
