Leliveld, Prof. Marijke

Marijke Leliveld is Aletta Jacobs Professor of Consumer Ethics at the Faculty of Economics and Business. Her expertise lies in the field of moral and ethical decision-making. She currently studies this on the topics of charitable giving and corporate social responsibility as well as sustainable fashion.
For her research on charitable giving she received an acceleration grant from the Faculty’s Research Institute for a project with charity consulting firm Data Inside. This project aims to create a knowledge exchange platform for charity organizations and enable those organizations to make data-driven decisions.
For her research on sustainable fashion, she received a grant from the Gratama Foundation for a research project that focuses on producing organic textiles for sustainable fashion. Leliveld focuses on the consumer side of the project: what do consumers need in order to accept new type of materials as suitable for clothing?
Leliveld is also part of the new SORTED textile project, which focuses on innovation, recycling, behavioural change, and circular business models throughout the textile chain, from collection and sorting to reuse and fibre-to-fibre recycling. Under Leliveld’s leadership, research is being conducted into how consumers can make their clothing consumption more sustainable – by buying, wearing, and discarding less, better, and more consciously.
