Hertogh, prof. dr. Marc
Marc Hertogh (1968) is hoogleraar Rechtssociologie aan de Faculteit Rechtsgeleerdheid van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Hij studeerde rechten in Leiden en is daar in 1997 gepromoveerd. Voor zijn benoeming in Groningen in 2005 werkte hij als postdoc en als universitair (hoofd)docent aan de Universiteit van Tilburg. Hertoghs onderzoek is onder meer gericht op de maatschappelijke beleving van recht en rechtsstaat. Andere thema’s in zijn onderzoek zijn: de maatschappelijke effecten van wetgeving; (de gevolgen van) rechtspleging en geschilbeslechting. Hij verricht daarnaast regelmatig onderzoeks- en adviesopdrachten voor derden. Hertogh was daarnaast staflid van de Parlementaire Enquetecommissie Opsporingsmethoden (cie. Van Traa) en lid van de commissie 'Uitdragen kernwaarden van de rechtsstaat', ingesteld door de minister van Justitie.

Welke invloed hebben juridische fouten op ons vertrouwen in de rechtsspraak?
In 2019 presenteerde een onderzoekscommissie onder leiding van Hertogh een rapport over de positie van het WODC, het onderzoeksinstituut van het ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid, over de vraag of het WODC wel onafhankelijk kan werken binnen het departement. Volgens de onderzoekers is de onafhankelijkheid 'geschaad'. Ambtenaren van het ministerie proberen regelmatig om wetenschappelijke onderzoeken te beïnvloeden.
