Roest, Prof. Diederik

Diederik Roest is Professor of Quantum Gravity and Cosmology. Although he is particularly interested in the mathematical properties of string theory, he also likes to translate abstract theory into concrete experiments. For example, he studies how the existence of string theory could be proved by means of observations on the largest possible distance scales, such as cosmic background radiation. He hopes that the Planck space observatory’s latest measurements will offer clues as to whether string theory actually does play a role in nature.
Roest is passionate about explaining complex science to the public in order to build trust in research. He was one of the academics who took the initiative for and are working on the online course on the academic world for 10 to 12-year-olds.
