Diederik Roest in The Young Academy
Dr Diederik Roest has been appointed a member of The Young Academy by the KNAW. Roest is interested in the mathematical properties of string theory. He enjoys linking abstract theory to actual experiments. Among the things he is investigating is whether clues for the existence of string theory can be found through observations on the very largest distance scales, such as background cosmic radiation. In 2008 Roest received a Vidi grant for his research: How stable are extra dimensions?
The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
