Invitation 4 May ceremony

On Monday 4 May, the Board of the University of Groningen will lay a wreath outside the steps of the Academy Building in memory of the victims of the Second World War. If you wish to attend the wreath-laying ceremony, please be in the lobby of the Academy Building by 9.50 am, where the procession will form. This will be followed at 10.00 am by a commemorative ceremony in the Aula of the Academy Building.
Commemorative ceremony
During the commemorative ceremony in the Aula, Stefan van der Poel will provide an explanation of the individuals for whom the University of Groningen is once again laying a Stolperstein this year. Afterwards, Jeroen Benders will report on his research into the war victims of the University of Groningen. This will be followed by a musical interlude by Robert and Sophie Bosscher. The ceremony will be concluded by Master’s student Flores Bootsma, who will discuss the new research on Anda Kerkhoven and the forthcoming exhibition dedicated to Anda.
You may also choose to come directly to the ceremony without attending the wreath-laying. In that case, please ensure you are present in the Aula by 9.55 a.m. at the latest. We will conclude the ceremony with a short coffee/tea reception in the Spiegelzaal. The programme will end around 11.30 a.m..
Please register by 28 April 2026 at the latest using the registration button below. We look forward to welcoming you on 4 May.
On behalf of the Board of the University of Groningen,
