Sweet on sugars and research
Marthe Walvoort, Assistant Professor of Chemical Biology, received a Veni grant from NWO this summer. Walvoort studies sugars, a topic that has thus far not received a lot of attention but which can play an important role in our health. Her aim is to synthesize the good sugars that appear in breast milk and combat the sugars in pathogenic bacteria.
Marthe Walvoort is also a Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the University of Groningen and founding member of the Young Academy Groningen .
