KNAW and University of Groningen ratify continuation of NIDI knowledge institute
KNAW president Hans Clevers and President of the Board of the University of Groningen Sibrand Poppema met in The Hague this morning to ratify the decision to fund the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the various ministries, KNAW, the University of Groningen and the NIDI. Poppema also unveiled the new nameplate on the institute’s façade.
This collaboration between the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the University will enable the NIDI to continue its research at the current level. In May last year, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science announced it was going to stop funding demographic research. KNAW and the University of Groningen then decided to shoulder the funding responsibilities for this important knowledge institute.
