Performance Agreements signed: Cabinet commits to ambitious plans of universities
On Monday 29 October seventeen universities, including the University of Groningen, signed Performance Agreements with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). The agreements set out the concrete ambitions and aims that are needed in the coming years in order to develop a sustainable and above all internationally competitive system of higher education.
The agreements should result in improved performance in a variety of fields in the coming years. Students will incur less study delay because universities will offer a more ambitious study culture, focusing on improved lecturer quality, matching activities, pre-entry selection and broad-based Bachelor’s degree programmes. In addition, the range of available degree programmes will be extended, which will result in more options for students with specific wishes and needs.
In the field of research, too, universities will distinguish themselves more from each other at both national and international levels. Research results will increasingly be translated into products and services in collaboration with the business world.
By signing the Performance Agreements the Cabinet guarantees its support for the ambitious plans by providing the necessary funding and legislation. A special Review Committee, which reviewed the performance agreements in September and issued its recommendations, assessed the University of Groningen’s plans as ‘very good’.
