In 2026 no call for proposals for M20 PhD programme in its current form

The board of the Ubbo Emmius Foudndation has decided not to issue a call for proposals for interdisciplinary doctoral research within the M20 PhD programme in its current form in 2026. This means that the call will not be reopened in February 2026 and that it will not be possible to submit proposals at that time.

We therefore advise researchers not to develop new proposals for this round at this time. Discussions are currently underway regarding the design of the programme. We will provide timely information as soon as there is more clarity on this matter.

The M20 PhD programme is a long-term initiative of the Ubbo Emmius Foundation for PhD students who aspire to a career in interdisciplinary research. The programme contributes to the university's interdisciplinary research profile by funding PhD positions. The funding comes entirely from a private donor and is managed by the Ubbo Emmius Foundation.
