Upskilling course: Fuel Cell and Electrolyser Technology Basics

Within the Interreg NWE Project GreenSKHy , PLANET, Deutsche WindGuard, and the University of Groningen are offering a series of upskilling and continuous professional development (CPD) courses focused on hydrogen, fuel cell, and electrolyser technologies.

Through practical experiments and demonstrations, participants will explore hydrogen technologies of the future — from production to electricity generation. The course explains the underlying science, materials, and components used to produce hydrogen and reconvert it into electricity, including the operation of several commercial systems.

The courses are free of charge and are intended for:

• Technicians and engineers
• Teachers in vocational and secondary education
• Technically interested professionals and curious laypeople

Participants can prepare through an online introductory module covering:

• The role of hydrogen in the future energy system
• Chemistry and physics of hydrogen use
• Safety and hydrogen
• State-of-the-art developments worldwide

In the lecture room and laboratory, participants will perform hands-on experiments on:

• Principles of water electrolysis
• Principles of fuel cells
• Performance of electrolysers and fuel cells under load (polarisation curves)
• Operation of small fuel cell systems
