On 13 November, we will bring together companies, knowledge institutions, governments and network operators to discuss one of the biggest challenges of our time: grid congestion. This day will be all about inspiration, knowledge sharing and establishing the initial connections needed to allow new ideas and initiatives to flourish.
Why is this event necessary now?
The energy transition is accelerating, but our electricity grid is reaching its limits. The rapid growth of renewable energy generation, the electrification of businesses and increasing energy demand are causing serious bottlenecks – better known as grid congestion.
Businesses are unable to obtain new connections, expansions are stalling and innovative projects are not getting off the ground. At the same time, it is clear that we cannot only wait for physical grid reinforcement. Smart solutions are needed that make better use of available capacity: flexibility services, local grids, smart management of supply and demand, cooperation in business parks and digital innovations.
This is precisely where the twin transition comes into play: linking the energy transition with the digital transition offers opportunities to use grids more intelligently, optimise processes and accelerate sustainable growth. At the same time, the digital transition also presents challenges, as digitalisation and AI themselves consume a lot of energy.
In addition, grid congestion requires well-considered policy choices: policymakers must take the implications of grid congestion into account in their strategic decisions and actively steer towards what is already possible and what is needed to prevent future bottlenecks.
Purpose of the event
With 'Net op Groen Noord-Nederland' (Net on Green Northern Netherlands), we want to bring together parties that are already working on – or want to start working on – solutions for grid congestion. By focusing on concrete situations and examples, we create a platform for knowledge exchange, inspiration and new connections. The event is not an introduction to the theme, but rather an in-depth and connecting one.
