About us University College Groningen Education Exchange (Study Abroad)

Outgoing students

Going abroad to study is an invaluable experience that will broaden your perspective, both in an academic as well as a personal sense. You will further develop your cultural sensitivy and experience what it is like to be completely submerged in a different culture. Moreover, in this time of globalisation, a semester abroad will increase your employability as well as potential employers value, as well as often require, international experience.

UCG’s Exchange Programme enables students to study their 5th semester at one of its exchange partners across the world with the credits achieved counting towards their UCG degree. As an exchange student, you remain enroled full-time at UCG and therefore continue to pay your usual tuition fees to the University of Groningen. Moreover, all students will receive a scholarship either from the European Commission or the University of Groningen.

Not only are there agreements between UG and other international universities, but also between individual programmes and specialisations in Groningen and abroad. In addition to the existing exchange options UCG is also busy setting up collaborative projects with like-minded institutions abroad.

  • More information about the options for exchange and application procedures can be found on our Student Portal (UG student-number required to gain access)
  • More information about registration with partner universities and administration thereof can be found on the intranet as well

In May each year, all 1st year students will be invited to the first exchange workshop where they will be informed about possibilities offered by the University of Groningen, eligibility requirements, application procedures, scholarship programs, partner universities and credit and grade conversion.

In September/October each year, the 2nd year students who plan to go on exchange will join follow-up exchange information sessions and indicate which field (based on their Major) they would like to study abroad.

In November each year applications open for all 2nd year students, for a semester abroad during the 3rd year.

Feel free to make an appointment with UCG's Exchange Officer if you would like to talk about this option. Also note that your UCG Academic Advisor will be able to guide regarding which University and courses will best suit your curriculum.
