Jaap Wieringa is Professor of Research Methods in Business at the department of Marketing. He has a MSc. in Econometrics (1994), and a PhD in Economics (1999) from the University of Groningen. During the years 1998-2000 he was employed as a senior consultant at the Institute for Business and Industrial Statistics (IBIS UvA BV), a consultancy firm embedded within the University of Amsterdam. For this company, he was involved in the implementation and training of quantitative quality improvement programs (mainly Statistical Process Control and Six Sigma) at, amongst others, DAF Trucks (a Paccar company), General Electric, Sarah Lee|DE, Hollandse Signaal Apparaten. On January 1st , 2001, he joined the department of Marketing at the University of Groningen. He has supervised four PhD theses as a co-promotor, five as a promotor and is currently supervising four PhD students.

Over the last 15 years, he has consistently ranked among the top five best teachers in the Faculty of Economics and Business (in some years, more than once). He won the 'Best Teacher of the year' award of the Faculty of Economics and Business in 2009, 2010 and again in 2019. IN 2011 he was awarded with the web-prize of the 'Best Teacher of the University of Groningen'.

His work in the field of industrial statistics has been published in, amongst others, the Journal of Chemometrics and Quality and Reliability Engineering International. He is co-author of a Dutch book on the Six Sigma quality program.

His publications in marketing include articles in Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Marketing Letters, Health Economics, Journal of Service Research, Technological Forecasting and Sociological Change and International Journal of Forecasting. He is co-author of several books, including "Modeling Markets" and "Advanced Methods for Modeling Markets". The main focus of his current research is on Data Science, Machine Learning, Marketing Model Building, Statistical Quality Control, Time series analysis, Diffusion modelling and Marketing Analytics.
