As programme leader, I coordinate a master’s curriculum that prepares students for professional academic roles in the field of movement, health and sport. Within an intensive and practice-oriented programme, students develop into critical thinkers and practitioners through extended internships, thematic education, peer reflection and portfolio work, with a clear focus on societal impact — from promoting active lifestyles to supporting healthy ageing, both within and outside clinical contexts and in sport settings.
The programme is firmly grounded in scientific themes such as motor learning, behaviour change, exercise physiology and neuromechanics. At the same time, it aligns closely with the strategic priorities of the UMCG and the University of Groningen, including Healthy Ageing and regional collaboration. Through strong connections with healthcare institutions, sports organisations and policy networks in the Northern Netherlands, the master’s programme contributes visibly to knowledge development and social innovation in the region.
