Field/Discipline
Expertise
At the department of developmental psychology we study lifespan trajectories of feeling, thinking and behaving (personality, well-being, trauma, psychopathology) but also zoom into mechanisms and micro-processes, such as my focus on daily life stress and emotion dynamics which play a key role in emotion disorders (e.g., Stress in Action gravitation 2023-33), especially anxiety, depression, and suicidality. My key expertise is Neuroticism (see Google-Scholar or Researchgate for details) and I'm passionate about the secrets of happy neurotics and the benefits of neuroticism (Veni 2019-22, NUDS 2023+). My studies on (consequences of) childhood neglect and abuse (e.g., HowNutsAreTheDutch) and factors that foster recovery from suicidality (thoughts/behaviors/self-harm) in youth (2023+) should be unnecessary. Finally, I have a persistent interest in the societal impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and psychosocial consequences (2020-25).
