Reading guides; From lecturehall to classroom

Many high school students struggle with the mandatory reading list. To support and inspire them, a group of WEM students (Writing, Editing, and Mediating) got to work creating accessible reading guides to help pre-university (VWO) students prepare for their English exams.
From The Great Gatsby to The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and from Jane Austen to George Orwell: a wide range of authors and works were covered. The students were tasked with creating reading guides that not only help students understand literary texts but also teach them to place these works in their historical context and to formulate a well-founded opinion about them!

Under the guidance of Dr. Ann Hoag and Dr. Tekla Mecsnóber, the students got to work. This resulted in unique and practical materials that won’t just gather dust in a drawer — they will actually be put to use.
The Scholierenacademie (Scholars’ Academy) will be offering the reading guides to secondary schools, allowing students to truly enjoy informative and creative reading aids that enhance the joy of reading!
