Career Minor Students Partner up with Artists for a Deep Dive into Business Planning within the Cultural and Creative Industries

Over the past 10 weeks, our dedicated efforts have been focused on crafting two business model canvases tailored for two creative entrepreneurs in the North of the Netherlands. These canvases serve as a sturdy groundwork, delving into the artistic values, organizational structures, and industry contexts of their businesses. We’ve looked into various marketing approaches, financial overviews, and supplied our clients with a diverse toolbox with which they can formalize and grow their creative entrepreneurship.

Just a reminder who our clients were. Chantalla Pleiter is a performance and visual artist involved in Station Noord, a local performance arts acceleration program, and long term partner of the Career Minor. She specializes in integrating interactive science and technology into her art and theater projects, exploring the intersection of technology and artistic expression. Pleiter's works feature interactive, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) elements designed to engage the audience's senses. Our second client was NakedHearts Film, led by producer Sander Roux and director Ayan Egal. They recently achieved success by winning the 48-Hour Film Project Groningen (https://www.48hourfilm.com/groningen). The duo focuses on creating short films that portray the humanity, beauty, and darker aspects of subjects related to the North of the Netherlands.

This project has been a rich learning experience. From tailoring social media channels, to specific customer groups, to exploring the Dutch cultural policy system, we’ve explored both the exciting parts of the Dutch cultural and creative industries, as well as the sometimes grim reality faced by artists when relying on subsidies for their personal financial stability.

Ultimately, this project has been a fruitful exchange of knowledge and expertise. Our knowledge has expanded significantly, we’ve learnt to understand and cater to a client’s preferences as professionals, but also feel like the project has significantly contributed to our personal growth. We are happy with the overall satisfaction of both Chantalla Pleiter and NakedHearts Film, as expressed during our final presentation (see photo). Kudos to the entire team for their collaborative efforts in achieving success.
