Science On a Sphere
14 September 2011
We just made our own version of Science On a Sphere. This educational tool can be used to illustrate earth systems to people of all ages. The original version was developped at NOAA to increase the public understanding of the complex environmental processes. They projected animated images of atmospheric storms, climate change, etc. on a real sphere.
Korte film van Science on a Sphere
We used our huge 3D touchscreen to project a big virtual sphere. The touchscreen has the advantage that one can easily interact with the data by rotating the spheres, zooming in and starting/stopping the animation playing on them. We also added a nice way to select a data set. In addition each data set has a small informational card attached that explains what a specific sphere is showing.
