UG joins iRODS Consortium

The University of Groningen (UG) has recently joined the iRODS Consortium, a worldwide network of research institutes, technology companies and universities where knowledge of data management technology is exchanged.
Safe
iRODS (Integrated Rule Oriented Data System) is a technology for managing research data and offers a solution to problems in the field of research data management that researchers encounter.
The iRODS data management software links unstructured data to metadata. For researchers who work with large volumes of data over longer periods of times, it is a good way of safely doumenting and storing data.
Widely available
iRODS is open source software; the source code is available to anyone who wants to use it to create their own application. The iRODS membership must provide a data infrastructure where researchers can manage, share and store their data safely and compliant. To achieve this, a team of specialists from the Center for Information Technology (CIT) of the RUG works closely with the iRODS consortium.
