Drawing up a data management plan

A data management plan (DMP) is a document that you must draw up before you start your research. It is a living document that you will have to update regularly throughout your research project. Subjects covered by the DMP include: the type of data that you intend to collect and process, protective measures if you are working with personal data, the facilities you will need for this, and your plans for managing data during and after the research project. A DMP is a compulsory part of the UG data policy. It is also required by funding bodies when you apply for a grant.

If you need help with setting up a data management plan, contact the Digital Competence Centre (DCC). They can help you to compile a data management plan. In addition, a DCC data steward can provide feedback on your plan. They can give you access to a data management web tool, which will help to generate a DMP relatively easily. Please remember that procedures may differ per faculty, so contact the privacy & security coordinator at your Faculty.
