Three U4 summer schools co-organised by ICOG members

09 January 2018

During the summer of 2018, three U4 summer schools will be co-organised by ICOG scholars. The summer school 'Methods and Methodologies: Complexities and Responsibilities in Gender Research' takes place in Uppsala, Sweden from Monday 30 July to Friday 3 August. This summer school is co-organised by the RUG's Centre for Gender Studies. Interested PhD students can apply before Thursday 1 February. Themes which will be discussed include the relation between theory and methods, research ethics and data collection.

The summer school 'Things That Matter 4: Material and Culture in/for the Digital Age' will be organised in Groningen from Monday 18 to Friday 22 June 2018. This edition of the successful summer school will be organised by the RUG, Uppsala University and Durham University. PhD and (Re)MA students engage with key questions that arise from the study of the past in the digital age. These issues include the changing nature of objects such as books and scientific instruments as source materials; the history and practice of collections and collecting, digitization and its challenges, both technological and intellectual.

'The Knowledge of the Curator II: Curating Art and Science' takes place in Groningen from Monday 9 to Friday 13 July 2018. This edition of the summer school series is organized by the RUG and Ghent University. The course asks how curatorial research relates to academic research, with a particular focus on the increasing interest in interdisciplinary projects that blur the boundaries between art and science. (Re)MA/PhD students and young professionals can apply before May 1.

The U4 Network is the strategic partnership between Ghent University (Belgium), University of Göttingen (Germany), University of Groningen (the Netherlands), and Uppsala University (Sweden). It provides a platform for joint initiatives within the fields of education and research.
