Laboratory for Conservation & Material Studies
Research is carried out at the LCM on archaeological finds and materials. The research concentrates on ceramics and metals. Research by means of specialised scientific techniques is achieved in cooperation with other institutes.
At the Laboratory metals and ceramics are investigated on composition and manufacturing techniques. Small samples of metal artefacts are studied metallographically.
For ceramics the composition of clay and inclusions is examined mainly by fabric analysis in order to explore geographical and technological variations.
Selected research topics are:
General
- Research into craft specialisation
- Research into the chronology of the Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age transition in Italy
Ceramics
- Fabric analysis on ceramics from Lazio, Italy
- Fabric analysis on ceramics from a Late Bronze Age saltern on the coast near Nettuno (Rome, Italy)
