Top-up for PhD candidates with their own funding

The University of Groningen welcomes international PhD students with a competitive scholarship from their home country (secured funding for a PhD project). To this end, the University will top up the scholarships to the same amount as that of regular PhD scholarship students in the PhD scholarship programme.

The number of scholarships available is limited.

Other funding possibilities

Other opportunities for additional funding may be found on the following grantfinder pages:

  • University of Groningen Grantfinder
  • Wessel Ganzevoort Fonds, which offers financial support to students and staff from the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies
  • Doctoral Grant for Teachers (NWO)
  • Nuffic (the Netherlands Organization for International Co-operation in Higher Education) provides information to prospective MA and PhD students on (post)graduate study in the Netherlands. Consult their online search engine Netherlands Student Grantfinder in case you are considering such a study and looking for financial aid. This grantfinder contains information on a range of Dutch scholarships for foreign students.

Interested candidates are advised to contact potential supervisors.
