Internships

The Joods Cultureel Kwartier is an organisation situated in Amsterdam which focuses on Jewish heritage and manages, for example, the Jewish Historical Museum and the Portuguese Synagogue. One topic that this organisation is interested in is heritage which has been museumalized but at the same time is still used by religious communities. A prime example of this can be found at the Portuguese Synagogue in Amsterdam. The JCK is also open to other ideas!

The Stichting Alde Fryske Tsjerken aims to preserve and protect church buildings in Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands. They own 53 churches and are based in Leeuwarden. Potential topics could relate to tactics that might help in reaching new target audiences and the attracting of international interest, new potential business models, or research into the historical figures that are important to Frisian churches. However, we are open to other suggestions as well!

The KDC, connected to the Radboud University in Nijmegen, is the national archive for the Dutch catholic community and currently focusing especially on migrant catholic communities in the Netherlands. Would you like to work together with us to investigate what we need to map the heritage of these catholic migrant groups? Apply for an internship with us!

The research question and topic for this internship are flexible, but one example of a topic would be to dive deeper into the treasures that the KDC already holds, and to investigate an interesting object.

Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder or Museum Our Lord in the Attic is a museum in Amsterdam which houses a hidden Catholic church in the attic of a 17th-century house.

Ons’ Lieve Heer is currently setting up a project: mapping the catholic heritage of Amsterdam. During this project, participants will investigate different catholic objects of the city and explore the stories behind them. This would be an excellent research project for an internship: you could choose a catholic heritage object in Amsterdam, investigate its past and its context, and conduct your research while also contributing to this project!

The Centre for Religion and Heritage is situated in Groningen as a part of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, and aims to promote scholarly exchange and connect different parties interested in heritage. If you are interested in a traineeship at the Centre, we are open to suggestions for topics!
