Carla-Elena Sava, student of International and European Law at our Faculty, has won the 2025 GUF-100 Award. This prize, awarded annually to the most outstanding student of each faculty at the University of Groningen, was presented on 4 July during the ‘Ceremony of Merits’.

Carla-Elena stands out with an exceptional average grade of 9.8. She also completed the Honours College programme, where she excelled by conducting a research project that is set to be published in the European Foreign Affairs Review, focusing on EU enlargement.

Her academic performance is complemented by her wide-ranging extracurricular activities. She has been a paralegal university intern and conducted research on legal activism by the European Court of Justice, interned at two renowned law firms in Bucharest, did a research internship in competition law and published an encyclopedia article with her supervisor. She has held several roles within ELSA, including National Director for ESG and Vice President of ELSA Groningen. In addition, she contributed to legal publications on environmental law and arbitration as part of the ELSA Law Review.

Carla-Elena has also been committed to social causes for many years. She was active in the Romanian NGO 'Interact Buzau' (as PR manager, secretary and president), and volunteered with the youth programme 'Smart Conversation Club', where she helps high school students develop research and argumentation skills.
