Law students organize Conversation on the Law and Politics of Protecting Liberal Democracy

Prior to the inaugural lecture by Prof John Morijn , students of the Faculty of Law will host open panel conversations with academics, civil society leaders, and judges from across Europe and beyond working to protect liberal democracy. It is organized by students, for students, but everyone is welcome in the Academy building in Groningen.

Panelists include Kim Lane Scheppele (Princeton University); Adam Bodnar (former Polish ombudsman); Márta Pardavi (co-chair, Hungarian Helsinki Committee); Wojciech Sadurski (scholar of Constitutional Law); Sophie in t'Veld (Member of European Parliament); Laurent Pech (Middlesex University); Judge Tamara Trotman (President, Judges for Judges); Judge Tomasz PosĹ‚uszny (Board member, Iustitia Polish judges association); Akudo McGee (PhD researcher in norm contestation in Poland, Maastricht University); Jakub Jaraczewski (Research coordinator, Democracy Reporting International); Radosveta Vassileva (Bulgarian legal scholar in comparative public and private law); Jan Wouters (KU Leuven); Léonie de Jonge (University of Groningen); amongst others!

In September last year the same students organized the Our Rule of Law Festival on the rule of law in Poland. During the two-day festival, nine Polish protagonists, including the Polish judge Igor Tuleya, who has been stripped of immunity, came to Groningen to share their stories.
