A PAS is a consultative document based on the British Standard model. An organisation or association who wishes to document standardised best practices on a specific subject can commission a PAS, subject to the BSI acceptance process. A PAS occupies the intellectual space between in-house and national standards. It can be considered for further development as a British Standard, or constitute part of the UK input into the development of a European or International Standard.

This PAS for sharing economy platforms is sponsored by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee and Japanese Standards Association.
