The Social Search for Self
Social Psychology
This project examines how group membership and social interactions influence on the experience of autonomy and the development of a personal identity. In a first project we conducted two longitudinal field studies to examine the effect of social inclusion on personal autonomy in two vulnerable groups in society (e.g., residents in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre) In a second project we examine how people develop a sense of personal identity by comparing the act of introspection with engaging in social interaction.
