Results from kick-off valorisation panel meeting, October 16 2015, Groningen

27 May 2016

On October 16 2015 the research team, private partners, and valorisation panel members came together at the University of Groningen to discuss their interests in the topic and the ways to move forward with this research project. Private partners and members of the valorisation panel discussed key characteristics of innovations that may influence public evaluations and acceptability of these innovations, and, importantly, people’s emotions towards these innovations. The characteristics that were mentioned can be classified into four categories:

  1. Aspects of an innovation, such as physical characteristics, costs, risks, and benefits, or familiarity
  2. Process characteristics, such as distribution of power or freedom of choice
  3. Involved parties, such as their values, motives or identity
  4. Context, such as rules and regulations, or media attention.

In the first research phase, we will systematically study the influence of different (categories of) characteristics of innovations on people’s emotions, evaluations, and acceptability ratings.
