Tammo Bijmolt wins EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2026

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) is proud to announce that Professor Tammo Bijmolt has won the EMAC Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award 2026 for his impactful research contributions and outstanding contributions to the European Marketing Academy (EMAC). The annual award is the highest honour a marketing scholar with extensive connections to EMAC can receive.
Tammo Bijmolt is Professor of Marketing Research at FEB’s Department of Marketing. The jury of the EMAC award describes him as an exceptionally accomplished marketing scholar whose research has shaped the field for decades. Bijmolt’s research interests include conceptual and methodological topics such as consumer decision making, e-commerce, advertising, retailing, loyalty programs, and meta-analysis. He has published extensively in international, prestigious journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Marketing Science, and International Journal of Research in Marketing. A defining hallmark of his career is pioneering meta-analysis in marketing, producing field-defining empirical generalizations that are both foundational for researchers and actionable for managers.
Extraordinary service to EMAC
Bijmolt’s extraordinary service to EMAC is also notable. He has fulfilled several leadership roles within the academy: Doctoral Colloquium Chair, National Representative, Track Chair, Vice-President Conferences, and EMAC President (2021–2024). Through these roles, he has strengthened EMAC’s conference portfolio, doctoral training, and international member engagement.
Apart from his impactful research and his dedication to EMAC, Bijmolt has made major contributions as a mentor and community builder, supervising 24 completed PhDs and mentoring several more, with former students now holding senior academic and industry roles. He has also provided sustained editorial leadership, serving as Associate Editor of IJRM (2012–2015; 2019–present), contributing to editorial boards (including Journal of Marketing, Journal of Retailing and Journal of Interactive Marketing), and offering extensive reviewing service. Finally, as Director of the Groningen Digital Business Center since 2019, Bijmolt has helped translate rigorous research into digital business and marketing practice through collaborations with major funders and industry partners.
Honoured to receive award
The 2026 Award committee - consisting of renowned marketing scholars Els Gijsbrechts, Werner Reinartz, Bernd Skiera and P. K. Kannan - was unanimous in its decision to give the award to Tammo Bijmolt. He will officially be presented with the award at the upcoming EMAC conference in Bath (UK) in June 2026.
Of course, Tammo Bijmolt is honoured to receive this recognition from EMAC. “I am truly honoured to receive this award from EMAC, a community that has meant a great deal to me throughout my career.
