Kristina Czura appointed as Professor of Development Economics

The Faculty of Economics & Business is proud to announce that Kristina Czura has been appointed as Professor or Development Economics within the Department of Economics, Econometrics, and Finance. The appointment is within the context of the Aletta Jacobs incentive fund.
The Chair of Development Economics focuses on how microeconomic factors, such as individual behavior, markets, institutions and policies can improve well-being, and foster sustainable growth in low- and middle-income countries. In particular, it studies applied microeconomic questions in fields such as labor economics, health economics, gender, organizational economics, and finance that are particularly relevant for low- and middle-income countries. It relies on applied micro-econometric and experimental economic methods for causal inference. These methods allow for evidence-based policy evaluations with actionable insights and advice for creating high social impact.
Research
Czura is a micro development economist and her research focuses on 1) financial products, financial inclusion and economic resilience, 2) gender, social norms, and economic participation, and 3) workplaces, well-being and productivity. Her work is informed by behavioral insights of how psychological, cultural and social factors influence economic decisions. She is firmly committed to creating social impact through science: her research is socially relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (1,3,5,8), and is linked to FEB’s strategic research themes Future Prosperity and Sustainability, Healthy Society and Leadership and Governance.
Czura joined FEB in 2020 as an assistant professor. Prior to Groningen, she held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, as well as an Assistant Professorship position at the University of Munich, Germany.
She is excited to continue her research and teaching as a full professor: “I am deeply honored to be appointed as Professor of Development Economics and I am excited to contribute to education, research and societal impact at our faculty. I am deeply motivated by the societal impact our discipline can have; my studies of development programs and solutions for market frictions in low- and middle-income countries continuously inspire my curiosity to look further into improving welfare and well-being, in particular for disadvantaged groups. I look forward to dive deeper into these topics in collaborations with brilliant colleagues within and outside of FEB and fantastic partner organizations.”
