University of Groningen and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences celebrate 20th anniversary of partnership

For twenty years now, the University of Groningen (UG) and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) have been partners, collaboratively offering a double degree PhD programme in Economics & Business. At the end of May, representatives of UCAS and the UG celebrated the 20th anniversary of this collaboration in Beijing, China.
The event brought together the representatives of UCAS and the UG and graduates to witness the fruitful achievements of the programme. On behalf of the UG, Prof. Jouke de Vries, Chairman of the Board of the UG, Prof. Peter Verhoef, Dean of the UG’s Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Prof. Elmer Sterken, Special Advisor to the board of the UG on International Strategy & Relations, and Ms. Xuefei Knoester Cao, Policy Advisor for Asia at the Department of International Strategy & Relations attended the event. Representatives from the UCAS’ School of Economics & Management (SEM) included Prof. Yongmiao Hong, Dean of SEM, Prof. Zhao Hong (who initiated the programme 20 years ago) and Prof. Cuihong Yang.

Since the start of the collaboration, 23 participants in the programme have graduated and continued with their career in China, the Netherlands and other countries. At the same day of the celebration, the 23rd graduation ceremony took place in Groningen. Bingqian Yan obtained her PhD degree for the thesis Trade and the environment: thought experiments and scenario analyses.
