Margarita Ortiz Almeyda receives Research Award from the Spanish Royal Academy of Doctors

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) proudly announces that Margarita Ortiz Almeyda has received the prestigious 2024 Research Award from the Spanish Royal Academy of Doctors (Real Academia de Doctores de España, RADE) for her PhD thesis ‘ESG, Growth Options, and Risk: A Value Creation Approach’. The award is an initiative of RADE, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Accounting and Business Administration (AECA) and the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Ortiz Almeyda is an assistant professor at FEB’s Department of Innovation Management and Strategy (IM&S). She obtained her PhD in 2023, at the University of Valladolid, Spain. Her thesis was supervised by Gabriel de la Fuente and Pilar Velasco and was supported by a competitive predoctoral contract co-funded by Banco Santander. Ortiz Almeyda’s research interests include sustainability, organization design, strategic alliances and corporate valuation. She continues to work on these topics in research and education at FEB.
In her award-winning thesis, Ortiz Almeyda explores how Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies reduce firm risk and influence value creation through growth opportunities and corporate diversification. The recognition by RADE, AECA and the Autonomous University of Madrid underscores the academic impact of her thesis. The RADE 2024 Awards grant recognition to the best theses defended and published by Spanish doctors between July 2023 and July 2024, provided that they have obtained a cum laude mention. Ortiz Almeyda is pleased to receive this recognition. “I am deeply honored and grateful that RADE and its sponsors have recognized my doctoral thesis as an impactful contribution to the field of sustainability disclosure and its effects. This achievement is shared with my supervisors, whose guidance has been invaluable throughout my PhD journey.”
