Opstapminor

FEB Bridge minor: Fast-track access to a master's degree in Groningen!

Do you want to move directly into a master's programme at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the University of Groningen after completing your HBO (university of applied sciences) degree? In academic year 2026-2027, we are offering this opportunity to students from specific programmes at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, and NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences through our pilot bridge minor (30 EC).

What is the bridge minor?

Normally, after completing an HBO degree, you must first complete an FEB pre-master programme to be eligible for an FEB master's programme. A bridge minor is a package of 30 EC of FEB pre-master courses that you take during your HBO programme, in the minor space.

After completing your HBO degree and the bridge minor, you can enrol directly in the FEB master's programme that corresponds to the bridge minor. This saves you up to 6 months of study time!

During the bridge minor, you attend lectures together with students from other pre-master programmes and sometimes also with students from our regular bachelor's programmes. You also get acquainted with the education and atmosphere at FEB.

Who is it for?

You are enrolled in a specific related HBO programme (e.g., Business Administration, HRM, Logistics, Industrial Engineering and Management, Accountancy) at Hanze University of Applied Sciences (to be decided), Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, or NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences.

You have earned at least 120 EC in your HBO bachelor's degree AND passed your propaedeutic phase (our advice: take the bridge minor in your 4th year).

You have permission from your own university of applied sciences to take the bridge minor.

You want to take a full minor (30 EC), not individual courses.

See the table below for the bridge minors available to you.

Application

You take the FEB bridge minor while enrolled at your university of applied sciences, within your HBO programme. First, you must register in Studielink for your own HBO programme for academic year 2026-2027. You also pay tuition fees to your own university of applied sciences as usual.

Next, you must request permission from your HBO programme to take the FEB bridge minor. Follow the steps below to register with the Faculty of Economics & Business at the University of Groningen.

Step 1

Register in Studielink for the bachelor's programme Business Administration (Dutch-language) with a start date of 1 September 2026 and select enrolment as a higher-year student. You are essentially registering as a subsidiary (‘bijvak’) student. Tick "Proof of Paid Tuition Fees (BBC)". If you change the language on Studielink, this is how the correct programme choice will look like. Please also make sure to select you are starting as an advanced-year student.

Please note: Do NOT select the Pre-Master (English taught) option or our specialised entry options for our Accountancy and Controlling Pre-Master's. All Opstapminor students must apply for the option above regardless of your chosen Pre-Master's.

Step 2

Step 2: Complete the registration form for the FEB Bridge minor. On the registration form, you must indicate which courses you will take. Check the overview for all bridge minors and the corresponding courses and course codes. Note: You may ONLY take the 6 courses that belong to your chosen bridge minor. Complete the form fully (including your UG student number) and email it to the FEB Admission Support Team: transfer.feb@rug.nl.

The deadline for registration in Studielink AND submitting the registration form is 1 July 2026. (Note: If you register in Studielink for the bachelor's in Business Administration after 1 May, you will automatically receive a message that you have registered too late. This message assumes a regular registration. In your case, however, it concerns registration as an elective student for a bridge minor. You can ignore this automatic message).

Step 3

You must request permission from your HBO programme to take the bridge minor, and you must meet the entry requirements. You can receive official proof of this through your HBO programme, which you must then email to the FEB Admissions Support Team: transfer.feb@rug.nl.

Please send us this proof as soon as possible, no later than 31 August 2026. Please note the date in the document must be before 1 September 2026. You must have met the admission requirements before the start of the bridge minor on 1 September 2026.

What if I don't pass all 30 EC at once?

All bridge minors are offered only in semester 1 of the academic year. For all courses in the bridge minors, you can take the exam twice per year. For most courses, the resit also falls in semester 1; for some courses, the resit is halfway through semester 2 (usually early April).

If you ultimately do not pass all 30 EC, you must consult with your own university of applied sciences about how to complete substitute courses or assignments to still complete your HBO minor. However, to gain access to the Master's programme, you must have passed all 30 EC of the bridge minor. You can then complete the missed courses later as a regular Pre-Master student after you have finished your HBO degree (note: this is also only possible in the 1st semester!).

How do I start the bridge minor well-prepared?

Discuss with your study coach at your university of applied sciences whether the bridge minor is right for you. If you have the option to choose the timing of the bridge minor yourself, schedule it as late as possible (in your 4th year) in your HBO programme. This way, you have the most prior knowledge, and you have the best connection when you want to continue at the University afterwards.

All Pre-Master courses at the Faculty of Economics & Business are taught in English. In practice, students manage this level well. If you know that you find English difficult, practise extra beforehand (perhaps you can take an additional course at your university of applied sciences, or do self-study).

For the bridge minors offered in 2026-2027, no special mathematics background is required (HAVO A or B level is sufficient). The bridge minor SCM/TOM includes a mathematics course, but for students from the HBO Industrial Engineering and Management programme, this should not be a problem. In the bridge minor BA Health, mathematics is applied in one course. We only recommend the bridge minor BA MAC if you have a solid background in finance, accounting, and control.

All bridge minors include statistics, usually as a separate course. If you have never had statistics or it was a long time ago, it is also useful to prepare a bit extra.

Our general advice is if in doubt, consult with your study advisirat your own university of applied sciences about how you can prepare.

More information

First, contact your own study coach. If you still have questions, contact the bridge minor management: premsc.feb@rug.nl.

Want to know more about the timetables at FEB? Visit the website rooster.rug.nl. More information about our courses can be found in the UG course catalogue Ocasys:

ocasys.rug.nl (information about the upcoming academic year is posted online in summer).

Important

If your HBO programme is not participating in the pilot for the bridge minor, you cannot participate yet in 2026-2027. You also cannot take individual courses at FEB. No exceptions will be made. The pilot will probably be expanded in 2026-2027. Keep a close eye on the information about this at your own university of applied sciences and on this website.
