Data-driven learning, data ethics and digital innovation

We live in a data-driven world and it is important for you to develop the ability to work with data and digital technologies, extract insights from big data sets and make informed and ethical decisions. At the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), we make it our priority to teach you about digital business, data science and analytics and help you with developing these highly valuable competences.

On top of that, our curriculum bridges the gap between these topics and ethics and responsibility. At the intersection of sustainability and data science lies the crucial topic of data ethics and privacy. In our programmes, we teach you to be accountable for the data you gather and interpret and how to manage big data ethically.

Driving digital transformation, shaping the future

What is digital business?

Think of digital business as the application of digital technologies and strategies to transform and optimise business processes, improve customer experiences, and create new business and economic models. You can learn about various aspects such as digital marketing, e-commerce, digital transformation, IT infrastructure, and study how to leverage emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain.

What is data science?

Data scientists collect, clean, analyse, and interpret data to discover trends, make predictions, and derive actionable insights. In short, data science involves extracting knowledge and patterns from large and complex datasets using techniques such as statistical analysis, machine learning, data mining, and data visualisation. How to handle data ethically and present the findings in a clear way is an important aspect.

Skills for tomorrow’s leaders

We embedded these topics in our education not only because they are relevant in our society but also to prepare you for your future career.

Why integrate these topics into our BSc or MSc programme?

From data to action

In a world where companies have a lot of data at their fingertips, it is important that future graduates have the ability to transform complex analytics into actionable insights and decisions across industries. Analysing data in an ethical way and communicating results effectively are skills we want you to gain in our programmes.

Better job prospects

Organisations are increasingly relying on data-driven decision-making and digital technologies to stay competitive. By incorporating digital business, data science and analytics in your study, you acquire skills that are in high demand in today's job market.

Strategic-decision making

Data science provides the tools and techniques to extract meaningful insights from vast amounts of data. You gain the ability to analyse complex data sets, identify patterns, and make informed decisions based on evidence and with ethics into consideration. This skill is invaluable for future leaders, as it allows you to drive strategic initiatives and make data-driven decisions that lead to better outcomes.

Stay one step ahead

Digital business, data science and analytics are closely linked to innovation and disruption. By studying these subjects, you gain an understanding of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain, which have the potential to disrupt traditional business and economics models. You learn, for example, to leverage technology to create new business or economic models and stay ahead of the competition.

BSc and MSc programmes

Across all our BSc and MSc programmes you will learn about how to leverage digital technologies, analytics and big data, understand e-commerce strategies, make data-driven decisions and navigate the digital landscape. In some programmes, you have the chance to explore the digital business, or data science and analytics subject further and expand your knowledge.

Furthermore, BSc students can take the new minor in Data Analytics in Economics and Business and MSc students can follow a focus area in Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.*
