Klaas van Veen appointed professor of Education
Klaas van Veen will be appointed professor of Education, in particular the Development of Professional Skills for Teachers, as of November 1st, 2013.
The chair becomes part of the Department of Teacher Education of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, and is primarily concerned with the training of teachers and research into the development of the professional skills of teachers.
The research focuses on the development that teachers experience throughout their careers in relation to their knowledge and skills in their profession, their teaching methods and their general pedagogical and didactic skills. In this research project, particular attention is paid to the question of whether these skills and their development go hand in hand with better results and learning outcomes of students.
Dr. K. van Veen attended the Pabo in Zwolle and then studied Educational Sciences at the Radboud University Nijmegen. In 2003 he received his Ph.D. in Nijmegen on the thesis “Teachers’ emotions in a context of reforms.” He then became an assistant professor at the Radboud University and at the Interfaculty Centre for Teacher Training, Educational Development and Post Graduate Training (ICLON) of the University of Leiden. At the moment, he is project leader of the National Centre of Expertise in the learning of Teachers.
