Reminder: Please change your password before 1 June

31 May 2021

Passwords are an important factor in information security. However, many passwords do not meet the requirements of a strong password. The UG is therefore carrying out a mandatory password change for all staff and students. This mandatory password change is part of a set of IT security measures adopted by the Board of the University. All staff and students are asked to set a new strong password before 1 June.

Don't wait until 1 June and change your password now! Go to account.rug.nl.

Password change enforced by 1 June

From 1 June, the password change will be enforced: if the password has not yet been changed, access to the network will be temporarily blocked. You will regain access after you have changed your password

A strong password

A strong UG password meets the following requirements:

  • At least 14 characters long,
  • Must include at least 1 number, 1 lower-case letter and 1 upper-case letter,
  • It may not have been used previously,
  • It may not contain personal information.

Use a passphrase

To make the long password easier to remember, you can use a passphrase, for example, Wegoback2theuni? or 10uurZonikzitophetBalkon! Note: Do not use spaces in the phrase.

Wi-Fi & new password

If you have changed your password, you will also need to change it in your Wi-Fi (Eduroam) settings during your next physical visit to the university.

More security measures

The password change is one of the measures taken to better protect the university network and your personal data. The introduction of Multi-factor Authentication (MFA or two-step verification) will follow shortly.

Questions?

If you have any questions about changing your password, please contact the CIT Service Desk.
