Dalton, John

The Englishman John Dalton (1766 - 1844), son to a weaver, was a chemist, physicist and meteorologist.
He introduced the atomic theory into chemistry. In 1808, he published a theory according to which:
- elements consist of atoms
- atoms of the same element have the same mass
- atoms of different elements have different masses
- atoms themselves never change
What atoms consist of, Dalton did not know.
