The research in this thesis focused on the effects of systemic medications and other risk factors of open-angle glaucoma (OAG). Data from the Rotterdam Study were analysed, a prospective population-based cohort study of age related disorders in the elderly. The research involved 3939 participants aged 55 years and older. Associations between the use of cholesterol-lowering, corticosteroid and antithrombotic drugs with risks of OAG were studied. Furthermore, a systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to examine the association between myopia and OAG.
